An exceptionally fine quality rare antique late 19th century violin marked "LOWENDALL'S IMPERIAL VIOLIN" most likely made in the USA after Louis moved there and changed the spelling from Lowenthal to LowenDall. It is very fine instrument, complete with tight fitting tuning pegs, strong neck, ebony fingerboard and fine purfling on the edges. The top scroll is very precise and refined too, it has a lovely warm colour and patination. It measure about 585 mm long overall and 352 mm long on the back so likely a full size.
Overall condition is very good for its age, there are a few light marks to the wood work, some minor wear to the fingerboard and the sound post is loose internally. It is not supplied with bow, strings, bridge or tailpiece. There are no cracks, splits or signs of repair to the body, ribs or neck. This could easily be restored to full operational condition. Please see the pictures to make your own judgement of condition also.We are happy to help and provide more information or pictures if required.
