Antique Violin 1 Piece Belly 2 Piece. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! There is no maker's label. This is definitely an old wood belly on this violin. Check out the graining and how close it is together. Also, note in the one pic the diamond shaped wood biscuits that hold the seam of the two piece back together. Definitely the sign of a well made violin. Very uncommon to come across this feature. The violin has a one piece belly and two piece back. There are no cracks, splits, or repairs to the belly or back of the violin. See the pictures to observe and confirm yourself. Beautiful old inlaid purfling on this violin on both the front and back. Did not remove the chin guard piece to view underneath it. Beautiful tiger maple two piece back to the violin.
No cracks or repairs to the back to report to you. Some finish loss to the belly under where the chin rest would reside. Some very minor finish loss to the back of the violin. The beaks are intact, some wear to the ends. The violin is still soundly glued together as are the sides to the soundboard and back.
The side of the violin looks like it is made of tiger maple wood as well. The graining on the violin, along with the varnish give it a great look. F holes are very intricately carved as is the scrolling at the top of the neck. Nice ebony key board on the violin. The tailpiece, end pet, and bridge are with the violin. The sound post is loose and rolling around inside the violin. No cracks or repairs to the tuner peg holes or box. The tuner peg box is notched into the neck. Not sure if made that way originally or a repair sometime in the past. The violin has four matching tuner pegs that have mother of pearl circle points at the end of each of them.
As noted before, there is no label in the violin. The violin is 23.5" long in total, 14" long by the body, 8-1/16" wide by lower bout, and 6-3/8" by the upper bout. The violin comes with a junky 1950s to 1960s case that the top has come off the rest of case. This musical instrument is not represented to be in playing condition. There will need to be major refurbishing to the violin to make the instrument playable again.
