Antique French Violin 2 Piece Belly & 1 Piece Back Inlaid Purfling Neck Disconnected from Body. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!

There is no maker's label. Our guess is that this is a French Mirecourt shop made violin from the 1800s. The violin has a two piece belly and one piece back.

There are numerous cracks, or splits on the soundboard/belly of the violin. Some of the veneer has come off of the side of the violin where the neck attaches. We have a piece of that veneer saved for the next owner to use in the restoration. A 1 section of purfling down on the left side of the saddle is missing. Finish discoloration under where a chin guard once was and where the bridge comes down over the body of the violin. Beautiful tiger maple one piece back to the violin. No cracks or repairs to the back to report to you. Some minor finish loss to the back of the violin.

The sound post is not in place, the beaks are mostly intact, some wear to the ends. The violin is still soundly glued together as are the sides to the soundboard and back.

The graining on the violin, along with the varnish give it a great look. F holes are very intricately carved as is the scrolling at the top of the neck. Nice ebony key board on the violin with some deep ridging from where 3 of the strings made contact with it. The tailpiece and a sound post piece are not with the violin. No nut, bridge or tail piece with the violin.

The end peg is with the violin. The neck has come unglued from the body and will need attention. No cracks or repairs to the tuner peg holes or box.

Appears to be made of a tiger maple material as well. 3 of the 4 tuning pegs are in place. As noted before, there is no label in the violin.

The violin is 23.25" long in total, 14-1/16" long by the body, 8.25" wide by lower bout, and 6.5" by the upper bout. The violin comes with an older wood case.

This musical instrument is not represented to be in playing condition. There will need to be major refurbishing to the violin to make the instrument playable again (examples - repairs to hairlines on belly, glue neck back to body, resurface or replace ebony neck, etc).
