Two-piece-back and ribs/sides made from maple and exhibiting beautifully rich orange/red flaming. Two-piece-front made from fine grained spruce.

The stylish scroll and neck is also made of maple. Tail piece in boxwood, the chin rest is Bakelite and the fingerboard has been crafted from ebony. The sound-post is in place and intact. The scroll is very expressive and delicately carved. The peg box in good order. Inlaid purfling is beautiful and very precise. All In good condition with only a small 7cm split to the joined central seam panels at the bottom bout and is half a millimetre in width.

The split runs just short of the top tail piece and trails off just before the fine tuners. Regrettably this is a normal occurrence with violins this age, due to changes in heat, humidity and tension.

Signs of wear commensurate with age, scuffs/scratches/dinks throughout. By origin, when first created, the maple central seam two-piece interior back panels were reinforced with evenly spaced wooden cleats from top to bottom.

These are visible through the violin's f-holes. Restoration is not advisable to the split as this does not effect resonance, performance or pitch.

Those produced around 1900 in Dresden were typically labelled "Manufactured in Dresden" and often copies of the great Italian masters.
