The scale length is a full 16", and the original carved nut measures 1 5/16" in width. The headstock features an ebony overlay with un-angled "The Gibson" script text first seen in the late'20s. The tuners are a set of vintage open-gear strip tuners replaced in the 1950s with clean nickel plating and white lollipop buttons.
This is also one of the earliest examples on record of an export Gibson instrument. Visible through the soundhole, the original white hand-serialized Gibson label is exceptionally clean, and original nickel embossed tailpiece is intact too. The original carved and compensated ebony floating bridge is present, while the guard is a vintage-spec replacement with a new bracket, replicating the correct shape and mottled transparency in the tortoise material. The top has a consistent arch with no sinking at the bridge or soundhole, and the spruce top is crack-free.The maple back shows one slender repair at the center seam and one additional tiny 1/2 repaired crack adjacent to the seam on the treble side. Wo repaired cracks on the bass side on the back, with targeted finish touchup that extends around the parameter of the back lower bout edge. Nicks and scuffs on the top which retains its original Ebony lacquer finish, while the dark walnut finished back, sides, and neck show light clear overspray.
